RESET Coaching: Executive Function Coach (Part-Time)
Context
Most families come to RESET because school isn’t working. Their teenager is missing assignments, blowing off projects, failing tests, and generally falling behind. These are often smart kids, but disorganized, overwhelmed, or avoidant. Parents are looking for help that actually moves the needle. That’s where we come in.
RESET coaches help students get organized, get work done, and get their grades up. We specialize in executive function support, especially for students with ADHD. Our work is practical: We don’t diagnose or therapize. We help teens build systems that work, week over week. That might look like getting ahead on a long-term paper instead of pulling another 1 a.m. panic sprint. Or passing a class they were previously failing.
Families typically care most about (i) better grades, and (ii) a more peaceful household. Your job is to deliver both.
What will you actually do?
You’ll meet one-on-one with students (usually weekly or twice a week) and help them plan and execute.
Every student is different, but most RESET sessions follow a rhythm. You begin with a planning conversation. The student blurts, and you help structure. They write it down, and you triage, clarify, and sequence. You help them anticipate what might go wrong and how to respond when it does.
From there, you'll often shift into real-time work: sitting with them while they get started on an essay, do a math problem set, or email a teacher. The work itself ranges from organizational to academic to motivational. A few students just need a plan, most others need a personal trainer, for you to push them a bit.
You’ll often revisit the plan next session: Did it work? If not, why not? What needs to change?
Some of this veers into “tutoring.” If they’re stuck on an assignment, you’ll help them get unstuck. If the subject matter is beyond your depth, you’ll raise that with the parent: “Hey, I think he might benefit from a dedicated Chemistry tutor.” But there is plenty you can do even with a subject you’re not fresh on - many times, for instance, a client just needs help getting started.
When would I need to be available?
Evening availability is best. Most RESET students are only free to meet between 7:00 and 10:30 PM, and we’re looking for coaches who can reliably offer sessions during that window. If you’re working with a student twice a week an ideal setup includes one planning-focused session on Sunday or Monday (great for setting up the week), and another session later in the week for checking in and pushing forward. If you’re meeting with a student once per week, earlier in the week usually works best.
Some clients - college students, homeschoolers - are available during the school day. But those are the exception. If you’re only available during the day, we may still have a fit, but evening flexibility is our primary need.
How do I know if I’m a great fit?
“A current or former teacher with a reputation for excelling with students who others often struggled to reach,” is who we have already hired.
Beyond that, you’ve excelled with teenagers or young adults in a one-on-one setting, whether as a teacher, coach, tutor, mentor, or advisor. You know how to build rapport without overselling. You’re curious about what’s underneath a kid’s behavior. And you’re excellent with parents, especially moms, who are often our primary partners in getting a student the support they need.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
A track record of success working individually with teens and young adults
Comfort with executive dysfunction: the missed assignments, vague excuses, avoidance cycles
Strong instincts for when to push, when to pause, and how to read a moment
Excellent communication with parents (you’ll be texting, emailing, and giving updates regularly)
Ability to stay grounded even when a student is scattered, resistant, or tuned out
How will I be trained?
We’ll provide a short training sequence that includes our case study book, our coaching manual, and a few annotated transcripts. You'll get a feel for our rhythms, tools, and typical client patterns. But from there, this job is hands-on. With a small caseload, you’re not applying a script. You’ll have support from us, and you’ll be expected to bring creativity, judgment, and initiative to the table.
What is the compensation?
RESET coaches are paid $100 per hour.
How do I apply?
If we already know you (all our coaches thus far), then just email us and say you’re interested.
If you’re one degree of separation (someone introduced us; that person is vouching for your jaw-dropping “WHOA” inspiring excellence with teenagers), then please send us a short (a few sentences) note describing your background, your availability (especially evenings and Sundays), and why this kind of work appeals to you, or any direct experience with it. Send us LinkedIn page too.
